Proxy server, as its name speaks, is a specialized web server which sits between a client application, such as a Web browser, and a real server intercepting all requests to the real server. Proxy servers are often used for secure web access in oraganizations. In case of multiple clients it dramatically improves the performance by caching. Proxy servers can be used to keep machines behind it anonymous as well as to increase the efficiency by speedy access to resources. There are various types of proxy servers such as Transparent Proxy, Anonymous Proxy, Distorting Proxy and High Anonymity Proxy.
